Meet Shannon Brown, LMSW
Shannon is the owner and sole member of the Simple Faith Counseling LLC Counseling Group (all other practitioners are in their own private practice.) She graduated with a Masters Degree in Social work from the University of Michigan in 2001, which is when she began her professional career in social work. She started her career working at a State residential facility for incarcerated youth. She later moved into the public schools where she worked with elementary-high school students. She moved to a private group practice in 2014 because she felt led to work where her faith could be an open and primary tool in helping people heal and where she could have more concentrated time working with individuals and families. Now, she has her own practice with the goal of making it a humble, yet notable faith-based group practice in Southwest Michigan. She loves this work! She is the wife of a wonderful husband and the mother of two active boys. In her spare time she enjoys long walks with her dog, reading several books at a time, cheering for her boys as they do the things they love, sipping on a good cup of coffee, and planning renovation projects. Jesus is her true inspiration in life and she is beyond grateful to Him for restoring her so that she can bring comfort and restoration to others. She knows His plans for us are GOOD and TRUSTWORTHY!
Clientele
Shannon specializes with children, teens, and young adults experiencing anxiety, OCD, grief & loss, trauma, and troubles adjusting to unforeseen life changes. She also works with adults facing these challenges. In recent years, she has added married couples to her practice, using Level 2 Gottman training tools to enhance the marriage relationship.
Therapeutic style
Shannon strives to develop a strong therapeutic relationship with her clients where they can feel safe sharing their story. She uses a variety of modalities based on her clients' individual needs. She loves incorporating faith into practice when able and allows her faith to lead her in her work with her clients.
Counseling is a journey and I will walk with you! My goal is to help you grow from your struggles, heal from your pain, and move forward to where you want to be in your life as you learn to know your unique self and care for your needs!! I know it is important to find a therapist that is the right fit. I strive to establish an open and comfortable space so that clients feel safe to share real life struggles and establish goals in order to make needed changes.
Simple Faith Counseling is conveniently located on 7162 Stadium Drive in Kalamazoo. The office is located on the east side of the building behind the white picket fence!
What insurances are accepted?
Shannon accepts BCBSM, BCN, Priority Health, and Behavioral Health Systems.
Do you accept private pay clients?
Yes, I do!
What do I need to bring to my first visit?
When you schedule an appointment, I will send all documents that you will need or have them available for you to complete on your first visit. In addition to these documents, you will need to bring your driver's license, insurance card, and form of payment accepted for co-pays.
What do I need to ask my insurance company before my first visit?
Before you begin your counseling journey, you will want to be prepared in regards to your insurance benefits. I advise you to ask your insurance company the following questions: 1) What is my deductible for in-network mental health benefits? Is there a limit on the number of sessions my insurance allows per year? Does my policy cover 60 minute sessions? What is my co-pay for counseling services? Does my plan require pre-authorization? Do I have out-of-network mental health benefits? This information greatly helps you to be prepared on the financial end before you begin your journey in therapy.
